About Neil Taylor
Headshot Photographer in Kent & London
I'm Neil Taylor, a professional headshot and portrait photographer based in West Kingsdown, Kent, working with professionals, business owners, executives, actors and companies across Kent and London.
I've been photographing people for most of my adult life. Photography began as a long-standing passion before eventually becoming my profession, when I decided to turn something I'd spent years developing into a business.
Before becoming a professional photographer, I worked as an IT Consultant. Although that's a very different career from photography, the experience has proved surprisingly useful when working with business professionals and companies.
I understand that a professional photograph isn't just about looking good. It needs to communicate something about you and work for the purpose you're using it for.
I photograph people, not models
One of the things I hear most often from clients is:
"I hate having my photograph taken."
That's completely fine.
Most of the people I photograph aren't professional models. They have a job to do, a business to run or a career to develop—they're not used to standing in front of a camera.
You don't need to know how to pose, where to put your hands or what expression to make.
That's my job.
I'll guide you throughout the session, making simple adjustments to your posture, position and expression and creating different variations until we find photographs that feel natural.
My aim isn't to turn you into someone you're not.
It's to create a professional photograph that still looks like you.
From IT Consultant to Professional Photographer
Before photography became my profession, I spent my career working as an IT Consultant.
Working with businesses and professionals gave me an appreciation for something that remains important in my photography today: understanding the purpose behind the work.
When someone asks for a headshot, I don't just want to know what they want the photograph to look like.
I want to understand where it's going to be used and what it needs to communicate.
A LinkedIn photograph, an executive portrait, an actor's headshot and a personal-branding session may all involve photographing the same person, but they have very different objectives.
That understanding helps shape how I approach each session.
Photography has been part of my life for years
I've been interested in photography and photographing people for most of my adult life.
Over the years, I've developed my approach through experience—learning how people respond to the camera, how small changes in posture and expression can transform an image, and how to create photographs that feel natural rather than overly posed.
Moving into professional photography allowed me to combine that long-standing interest with the opportunity to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
Today, people are the part of photography I enjoy most.
Professional headshots with clear direction
A good headshot isn't simply about having a good camera and good lighting.
It's about what happens between the photographer and the person being photographed.
My approach is deliberately relaxed and practical.
Before the session
We establish what you need the photographs for and the sort of image you're looking to create.
During the session
I'll guide you through positioning, posture and expression. You don't need to arrive knowing how to pose.
Throughout the shoot
We'll create different expressions and variations so that you have genuine choices rather than a collection of almost identical photographs.
After the shoot
I'll professionally edit the selected images and provide them through an online gallery.
The result should be professional, natural and appropriate for the way you're going to use it.
Headshots for professionals and businesses
I photograph:
LinkedIn profiles
business owners
freelancers and consultants
executives
corporate professionals
personal brands
company teams
actors
speakers and public-facing professionals
For some clients, a short session producing a small number of photographs is all they need.
Others need a broader collection of images for LinkedIn, websites, social media, PR and other professional uses.
I'll help you choose the type of session that makes sense for what you're trying to achieve.
Actor Headshots
I also work with actors who need professional headshots for casting, Spotlight, agents and promotional purposes.
Actor headshots require a different approach from a corporate portrait. The photographs need to capture personality and character while remaining natural and believable.
I'll help you create a range of expressions and looks rather than simply producing several versions of the same photograph.
Based in Kent, working across Kent and London
I photograph people and businesses on location where that is more appropriate.
For many clients, there's no need to travel into central London to get a professional headshot. The quality of a finished portrait comes from the photographer, lighting, direction, composition and attention to detail, rather than simply the postcode where it was taken.
If you don't like having your photograph taken, you're in good company
You don't need to be naturally confident in front of a camera.
You don't need modelling experience.
And you certainly don't need to know what to do with your hands.
I'll guide you through it.
My job is to make the process straightforward, relaxed and hopefully more enjoyable than you expect—and to give you photographs that you're confident using.
If you're looking for a headshot photographer in Kent or London, get in touch and tell me what you need the photographs for.
